Dear Sony,

Where is your marketing department? You have a brilliant new Action Camera, the HDR-AS15K, yet we hear virtually nothing about it. At least not in Australia.

I have seen this action cam in action, and it is comparable, dare I say even better in some respects, than a GoPro. The 120FPS slow motion, built in Wi-Fi, and neat form factor are just a few of the great features. But who would know?

But I always maintain that it doesn't matter HOW good a camera's features are, if the video quality is rubbish, it's dead to me.

Sony Action Camera

Sony HDR-AS15K Sports Cam Kit

The Sony has superb video quality. Something few, if any sports camera manufacturers have managed to produce, aside from GoPro.

But what you, Mr. Sony, seem to fail to realise is that the sports camera market is a very "clicky" group. GoPro understand this and know how to market to their audience. They do social media brilliantly, support the people who can get their name out there, and build a community of GoPro fans.

Don't get me wrong - GoPro haven't always had a good product. Way back when (a mere couple of years ago now) when they had just a few people in their office, they had to almost beg people to take them on. But they learned. They improved their product whilst still retaining their individual form factor, and within about a 12 month period, just after the release of the GoPro Hero2, they went from (almost) zero to "hero".

Now, Mr. Sony, you bring out your first Action Cam, and its fantastic from day one. But what are you doing to market it? To get it out there? To tell the masses that "hey, Go Pro FINALLY have some competition"? Very little it seems to me. Which is a shame.

And I guess now that the new GoPro Hero 3 (Black) is out, there will be an updated version of the HDR-AS15K coming out at some stage soon? But again, I guess Sony's PR will be like a lion roaring with laryngitis - NOBODY CAN HEAR YOU!

Competition is good - but in the clicky world of sports action cameras, you cannot simply skate by on the Sony name alone. You have to get in and amongst the market, mix it up with your customers, build a following.

Currently, searches in Google for "Sony action camera" per month in Australia? Only about 150.

Start roaring - PLEASE!
