Calendars have certainly come a long way. These days, people expect, and demand,
much more from their calendars.
Motorcycle calendars featuring the Harley-Davidson brand are not uncommon, but
recently I was given a limited edition Harley calendar which is not only practical,
but a real work of art.
I've either bought or been given a Harley calendar of some sort since before I
bought my first Harley at 21, but NEVER have I been so impressed by a
calendar as when I was given a Limited Edition Inspire Calendar as a gift.
Sure, you can buy the stereotypical Harley calendar with bikini-clad girls
draped all over a custom Harley-Davidson, but this is something where the artist
has actually used his creativity to produce not only a calendar, but a work of
photographic art. A calendar that I, and no doubt you, will want to keep LONG
after the year has been done and dusted.

David Willis from Vida is responsible for this limited edition wall art aptly
named "Inspire Calendar".
Each of the twelve monthly panels looks like it could be a scene from a movie;
the detail is amazing. And that's exactly the look David was aiming for, drawing
on his years of experience in production.
After speaking with David for some time, I can tell you the lengths he went to
get just the right shot were incredible.
For example, the apocalyptic setting used for the front cover, as well as the
month of May. Just as the shoot was set up and ready to start photographing, a
sand storm blew in from nowhere - not a good thing when your shoot is costing
you thousands and thousands of dollars.
However, it did make for a very realistic scene. The sand you see in the shot is
real - it's not Photoshopped in, but courtesy of the Warrnambool (Vic)
surrounds. Not surprising really. Perhaps you've have heard of a small movie
franchise called "Mad Max"? It was shot near Warrnambool as well.
About the calendar
Beautifully shot in various locations around Australia, the calendar takes 12
unique custom-built choppers and modified Harleys to a world never seen before.
Created and art-directed by David Willis from VIDA and photographed by Pedro
Virgil, this cutting-edge calendar brings the artistic styles of fantasy,
fashion, style and design to the motorcycle world and beyond.
Featuring bikes from the DVD documentary "Inspire – Tales from the Road Side" by
Xplode films, these extreme custom bikes each tell a unique visual story. The
calendar extends the story by taking inspiration from each bike and placing them
in a world that could only be dreamed of.
The calendar is a huge wall poster size format (594 x 420mm/US size 23.6" x
16.5" when open), in full colour, and printed on premium high quality gloss
paper.
Production has already commenced for a 2011 Inspire Calendar, featuring
scenes and bikes from Australia, USA and Europe.

I've been given (and bought) many Harley calendars
over the years, but THE BEST by far is one I was given called Inspire
Calendar. The lengths David Willis (Studio Vida) went to to produce this
work of art really shows in the end result. Each month is worthy of being
hung in a frame after use!
