GoPro Hero 3 HD

There is a buzz around that GoPro will soon be launching the successor to the ever popular GoPro Hero2 sports camera.

By all accounts, the GoPro HD Hero3 will be a huge step ahead of the not-quite one year old GoPro Hero2 HD. If you love the Hero 2, you should be over the moon with the new features and form factor of the GoPro Hero 3.

It seems there will be three new models launched very soon:

• HD Hero 3 White Edition
• HD Hero 3 Silver Edition
• HD Hero 3 Black Edition

All three new cameras will share the same new form factor, whilst still retaining the easily recognised GoPro shape. The difference is, the new cameras will be much thinner (fantastic!). To give you an example, it has been reported that the new GoPro Hero3 WITH a BacPac attached, will be the same size as today's GoPro Hero2 by itself.

The new cameras will also come shipped with a new housing, and underwater fans will be happy as it seems it will incorporate an underwater lens, as well as an improved locking latch on flip down back.

Because the new camera is so much smaller, GoPro appears to have moved to Micro SD cards, as opposed to the current SD cards for storage.

GoPro Camera Line Up:

HD Hero 3 White Edition

This is basically an HD Hero 1 Camera (5mp photo sensor, etc.) that includes WiFi, dive lens and the new, thinner form factor.

• 1080/30, 960/30, 720/60
• 5MP Photo
• 3 shots 1 second photo burst
• WiFi Built in Improved Housing (locking latch / dive lens)

HD Hero 3 Silver Edition

This is essentially a HD Hero 2 camera with WiFi built in, new form factor and improved housing.

• 1080/30, 960/48, 720/60
• 11MP Photo
• 10 shots 1 second photo burst
• WiFi Built in
• Advanced Features / Capture (Protune and White Balance)
• Improved Housing (locking latch / dive lens)

HD Hero 3 Black Edition

This is brand new technology with incredible new settings.

• 4K/15, 2.7K/30, 1440/48, 1080/60, 960/100, 720/120
• 12MP Photo
• 30 shots in 1 second (plus many more burst settings where you can control how many shots in the burst and how long the burst lasts)
• WiFi Built in Remote Control Included
• Advanced Features / Capture (Protune, White Balance, Continuous Photo, and Picture in Video - PIV capabilities)
• Improved Housing (Locking Latch / Dive Lens)

According to sources, it appears that the one camera model will come in two versions; the Adventure Version and the Surf Version. The surf version will come with a surf mount, but no floaty back door.

I don't know about you, but I'm VERY excited. GoPro have been ahead of the pack for ages with the Hero2 HD, but now, the GoPro Hero3 should further cement their position at the top of the sports camera tree.

The likes of Drift Innovation, Contour, etc, should be shaking in their boots. Where do I line up?
