In outdoor advertising, as with everything else in the past few years, there is no doubt we are in the digital age.

With the success and transparency of the likes of Google AdWords, advertisers have more control than ever over how their advertising budget will be spent. Businesses who used to spend (for example) $25K on a Yellow Pages ad for one year, can now spend a lot less, and get a lot more in return by using pay per click campaigns and search engine optimisation.

Billboard Advertising However, one should still not discount "old world" advertising - yet. Consider the humble roadside advertising billboard.

Can you count the times you have been stuck in a peak hour "parking lot" and noticed those huge outdoor advertising billboards telling you about the latest in underwear, a new model car, the best vacation place in Australia, or something you've never heard of before which manages to capture your attention?

Have you ever considered how much advertisers pay for those billboards? Let me tell you, they are often not as expensive as you might think.

For example, if you are familiar with the Great Western Highway (often referred to as the Great Western Car Park) in Sydney, you will have encountered many billboards of varying sizes on both sides of the road.

Can you imagine how many other people would see a billboard each week, month, or year?

As for pricing, I know of more than one location where you can secure a billboard for a whole month, for only $2000. That’s a hell of a lot of bang for your buck.

So if you are considering other methods of advertising, think about the good old billboard – it still works a treat, and is not as expensive as you might think!
