Electrical Estimating - Kitching Electric

Dean Kitching, owner of Kitching Electric, has been in the electrical trades industry since 1986 as an electrical contractor. In February 2008 Dean decided to add electrical estimating services to his range of professional services, and from early 2009 he became a full time electrical estimator.

Using the services of an electrical estimator, rather than using electrical estimating software, gives you the freedom to concentrate on your income producing work. In the mean time, your quotation is being prepared by an experienced and reliable professional in the electrical trades industry.



Dean uses a specially designed MS Excel Spreadsheet for each aspect of the job estimation which will provide the total costs for materials and the number of labour hours required. As a general rule, recommendations published by NECA and American estimating publications are followed (where relevant) for estimating the hours, but Kitching Electric can integrate any particular rate you may charge for lights, power points, etc in the electrical estimate.

Even if you are not very familiar with, or unable to use spreadsheets, Dean can print and fax, or scan and email all the info you require.

As a result of the BER (Building the Education Revolution), Dean has recently completed a lot of school renovation projects, even as far away as Western Australia, as well as large unit developments, factories, shops, and other assorted mixed developments. In fact, Australia-wide service with Kitching Electric is no problem either, with clients currently serviced not only in New South Wales, but in Victoria and Western Australia too.

Requirements for an estimate

• Email any relevant drawings to dean@kitchingelectric.com, or you can pop them in the post if there's a couple of weeks until the quote is due
• Provide a list of your wholesalers and other suppliers, or Kitching Electric will use their own provider lists
• Advise if tender sheets need to be done. Any tender breakdowns can be done if called for, but sometimes there are pages of rates you may want to complete yourself.

** Any and all work done on your behalf by Kitching Electric will be held in the strictest confidence**

Terms and fees

• Kitching Electric charges AU$70.00 per hour. As a rough guide, a $100,000 job may take around 2 to 3 hours, and a $1.8m job about 30 hours. However, the minimum fee is two (2) hours at $70.00 per hour.
• All jobs are charged approximately $35.00 for printing (depending on the size of the job), and on-site visits may incur extra costs as well
• A 50% deposit is required on at least the first job, with the balance payable STRICTLY within 7 days of the estimate being finalised and provided
• Further work will be undertaken at terms of 7 days net after Kitching Electric has received an account application form (contact Dean for more infomation)
• You can pay online via PayPal using Visa or MasterCard, via internet banking via direct deposit (receipt will need to be emailed), or cheque
• When payment advice is received for the deposit, Kitching Electric will send the estimate by your preferred method as soon as its ready.
